Coffeebean: Designing In-House Collateral for a Refreshing Summer Sip
As a former Coffeebean barista, I had the unique opportunity to merge my love for design with my experience behind the counter. Through a connection within the company, I was entrusted with the exciting task of creating a piece of in-house collateral for an internal competition. The challenge was simple yet creatively stimulating: to design a poster that brought to life the essence of a new drink using just a few evocative keywords—thirst on a hot day and yuzu.
With these cues, I began envisioning the story of a sweltering summer afternoon, where every sip of the right drink can feel like a revitalizing escape. The drink in focus? The Matcha Honey Yuzu—a refreshing fusion of earthy matcha, sweet honey, and zesty yuzu.
Designing the Poster: From Keywords to Visual Storytelling
The goal was to capture the invigorating nature of this drink in a way that would entice both the senses and the imagination. Here’s how I approached the design:
Color Palette: I leaned into vibrant, citrus-inspired hues of yellow to echo the freshness of yuzu and matcha. These colors not only evoked a summery vibe but also highlighted the drink’s unique ingredients.
Imagery: The backdrop suggested a summer day on the beach inviting viewers to imagine quenching their thirst with a cold beverage.
Typography: The name, "Matcha Honey Yuzu," was designed to stand out boldly, while playful fonts added a light, breezy feel to mirror the drink’s refreshing character.
Message: Beyond just aesthetics, the poster needed to communicate a story—the promise of cooling relief on a hot day and the delightful harmony of flavors that make this drink a standout.
Impact
The final design struck a balance between functional marketing and artistic flair, effectively capturing the essence of the Matcha Honey Yuzu. It wasn’t just about promoting a drink; it was about evoking the feeling of rejuvenation and delight that comes with savoring it.
For me, this project was more than a design task—it was an opportunity to bridge my barista experience with my creative skills, crafting something that resonated with both my colleagues and customers alike.
